QRATES launches “Store Delivery” , a wholesale marketplace for artists and stores with direct delivery from pressing plant to record stores worldwide.
Vinyl record pressing and presale funding platform QRATES have launched “Store Delivery” , a new program that enables artists/labels to distribute their vinyl directly from the pressing plant to a network of record stores worldwide.
Collect pre-orders from both fans and stores
QRATES launched in April 2015 allowing artists and labels to create funding projects to press and pre-sell their vinyl records. Funding projects can be launched for free along with integrated digital promotion tools to help drive funding. Projects that reach their predetermined funding goal set by the artist/label, get their vinyl pressed and delivered. Since launch, over 1000 projects have been created by artists and labels worldwide, and many have successfully delivered their vinyl releases to their fans.
With Store Delivery, record stores will also have the ability to participate in funding projects and directly buy records at wholesale for their stores. Not only will this enable artists and labels to have a significantly higher chance of successfully completing their funding goals by having both fans and stores participate in their funding project, it will completely eliminate inventory risk and allow artists/labels to fully control their wholesale prices to record stores at the same time.
Direct distribution and maximizing revenue with data
For many artists and labels, having their vinyl sold at a record store continues to be something special. Often times local record stores act as a hub for music culture in the community and having a vinyl release physically sold has promotional value. However, getting vinyl distribution to record stores has been a challenge as the vinyl community is often offline, small, and siloed by geography and genres. Thus, the chance for independent artists and labels to have their music heard by record store buyers have been limited. Especially when it comes to selling vinyl to stores in foreign countries, the challenge is even higher.
With the Store Delivery program, partner record stores will have their own private portal to access wholesale pricing, links to preview the music, related information about the release and can order and buy right from inside the platform, creating a brand new source for the latest music outside of traditional record distribution channels. Once the vinyl is pressed at the plant, it will be automatically delivered directly to the store increasing shipping cost efficiencies for artists and labels. Sales and geographical data are shared back to the artist/label to enable further marketing and promotional efforts.
200 stores in Japan and Europe at launch with US expansion in Spring 2016
Store Delivery aims to redefine vinyl distribution for both artists/labels and record stores by offering an open and fair B to B marketplace. Featured record store partners at launch include Jetset, HMV Record Shop, Technique in Japan and Juno Records, the largest online record store in Europe, totaling a network of over 200 physical record shops and buyers. Other global partnerships including stores in the US are set to release in Spring of 2016 and expansion to 1000 stores globally by 2018.
